ISLAMABAD: Energy Ministry sources said that the blackout that took place across the country on Saturday night was a human error. The breakers were being maintained without the approval of the National Power Control Center where the entire system went down due to a minor mistake.

Sources said that the maintenance of a breaker installed in the switchyard of the Guddu power plant was in progress and the circuit breaker was grounded during the maintenance. The day crew left without closing the circuit breaker.
According to sources, the staff working in the night shift closed the circuit breaker without removing the earthing. The circuit breaker installed in the switchyard was closed directly from the control room. Closing the circuit breaker without removing the earthing caused the Guddu power plant to shut down.
Sources in the Ministry of Energy said that the transmission lines from the Guddu power plant were also tripped due to the closure of the plant.
The sources further said that the breaker of the Guddu power plant was also being maintained without approval. The approval of the National Power Control Center was required for the maintenance of the Guddu power plant breaker.
