ISLAMABAD: The government has extended the decision to open schools from class 1 to class 8 by one week, upholding the decision to open educational institutions from class 9 to class 12 from January 18.
According to details, a special meeting of the National Command and Operations Center was held under the chairmanship of Federal Minister Sad Omar. The meeting reviewed the decision to reopen the educational institutions.
Addressing a press conference after the meeting, Federal Minister for Education Shafqat Mehmood said that the NCOC meeting reviewed the situation in the light of statistics and decided to gradually open educational institutions from January 18.
Shafqat Mahmood said that the rate of positive cases of the corona was 7.9% on November 26, which has come down to 6.10 as of January 14. The rate of serious cases has increased since November 26. The Federal Minister for Education, while upholding the decision to open 11th, 10th, and 9th classes from January 18, said that no child would be passed without examination this year.
Shafqat Mahmood while extending the decision to open schools from 1st to 8th class by one week said that educational institutions from 1st to 8th class have been decided to open from 1st February while universities and other educational institutions will also open from 1st February.
He said that classes 9th to 12th would be restored from January 18, while classes from 1st to 8th would be open from February 1 instead of January 25 and universities would also be open from February 1.
Yesterday, Education Minister Shafqat Mahmood had said in his statement that he wanted to open a school, but the health of students is the first priority, the final decision will be based on health.
It may be recalled that on January 4, Education Minister Shafqat Mahmood, while announcing the opening of educational institutions across the country in three phases, had said that schools from January 18 to 9th grade, schools from January 25th to primary to 8th grade, and universities including Higher education institutions will open on February 1.
Regarding the board exams, the education minister said that the board exams would now be held in May and June, while from January 11, school administration and teachers would be able to perform their duties.
