The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) has fined the Peshawar Electric Supply Company (PESCO) for the deaths of citizens due to electrocution.
According to the details, NEPRA has imposed a fine of Rs 13 million on PESCO for the deaths of citizens due to electrocution between July and December 2019.
The NEPRA report said that a two-member inquiry committee was formed into the deaths of 26 people and Pesco was found guilty in 14 of the 26 deaths.
The report of the inquiry committee said that the authority had issued a show-cause notice to PESCO under NEPRA Act and also given an opportunity for a hearing. PESCO failed to maintain the code of conduct and safety standards.
NEPRA has directed PESCO to pay compensation to the bereaved families.
