India’s Supreme Court has advised a rape accused to marry the victim girl, which is being severely criticized.

It may be recalled that the said man had raped a 16-year-old girl in 2014-15 and the Bombay High Court had recently rejected his bail.

Rape case

According to Indian media, the Indian Supreme Court yesterday heard a petition filed by the 23-year-old accused against the High Court’s decision, during which the Chief Justice asked the accused’s lawyer whether his client would marry the victim.

“We are not forcing you. If you want to get married, tell us otherwise you will say we are forcing you,” the chief justice added.

The petitioner’s counsel told the court that 23-year-old accused Mohit Subhash could no longer marry the abused girl as he was now married. The counsel further told the court that his client had earlier wanted to marry the girl, but she refused.

Petitioner’s lawyer added that all these things you should have thought before you seduce and abuse the girl.

The court later granted bail to the accused.

Several people, including Indian actress Taapsee Pannu and singer Sona Mohapatra, have expressed anger over the court’s remarks.

Tapsi Panu shared the news about the court question on Twitter and tweeted that did anyone ask this question to the girl? Does she want to marry the abuser? Is it a solution to the problem or a punishment?
