Kuwait’s Emir Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah has accepted the resignations of Prime Minister Sheikh Sabah Al-Khalid Al-Sabah and his cabinet.
The Prime Minister of Kuwait, Sabah Al-Khalid Al-Sabah, submitted his resignation to the Emir of Kuwait, Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, on January 13.
Earlier, Kuwaiti ministers and cabinet members submitted their resignations to the prime minister following tensions over administrative matters. Among those who resigned were all members of the cabinet, including Kuwait’s deputy prime minister and defense minister.
Members of the Assembly resigned from their posts in protest of the formation of a new cabinet and government structure. A few days ago, members of the Assembly moved a motion to question the Prime Minister on other issues, including the reshuffle of the cabinet.
The resignations of the Prime Minister and the Cabinet have been accepted by the Emir of Kuwait. Sheikh Sabah’s cabinet will serve as the caretaker cabinet until the new government is formed.
It may be recalled that the resignation of the cabinet formed on December 14 was expected following a resolution tabled in Parliament earlier this month.
