A bomb blast near the Spanish capital, Madrid, has shaken the city.

According to international media reports, two people were killed and several others were injured in the blast. The blast also destroyed surrounding buildings.

The blast destroyed a six-story building and shattered the windows of nearby buildings.

The mayor of Madrid confirmed the deaths of two people in the blast and said that initially the explosion was known to be a gas leak.

Police and fire brigade personnel have sealed off the area and firefighters and local police are taking part in the rescue operation.

Photos and videos of the blast site have been shared on social media, showing scenes of devastation in the tragic incident.

Eyewitnesses say loud blasts were heard throughout the city, the whole area echoed and chaos spread.
