The US government has announced that it will monitor North Korea’s hacking activities. The announcement comes after the US Department of Justice charged three North Koreans with suspected involvement in major cyber attacks.

The State Department says the main concern is Pyongyang’s nuclear and ballistic missile programs but also considers the North Korean government’s malicious cyber activities. A review of US policy on North Korea will take into account the deadly activities found by North Korea and the full extent of these threats.

The U.S. Department of Justice has revealed that it has filed several charges against three North Korean hackers, including attempts to steal more than $1.3 billion in cash and cryptocurrencies from banks and businesses. All three are North Korean government officials.

None of the three North Korean suspects are in US custody, but US officials say they have a legal right to prosecute even in the absence of the suspects.
