Pentagon spokesman John Kirby said the attack on Iranian-backed militias was ordered by President Joe Biden in response to a recent rocket attack on US troops in Iraq.

According to Pentagon officials, US warplanes dropped seven 500 pounds guided precision bombs on Iranian-backed military infrastructure and hit seven targets, including a weapons transfer by an armed group.

According to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, the US strikes killed more than a dozen Iranian-backed militants and destroyed three vehicles carrying weapons and ammunition.

Two weeks ago, an attack on a military base near Erbil airport in Iraq killed one US coalition soldier and wounded nine foreigners, including a US soldier.
